What does interVivos mean?
interVivos is a Latin word that means “from one person to another.” Click here for a short video about how the name was selected.
Do I need to become a member to come to interVivos events? Is there a membership fee?
No. interVivos does not have members or a membership fee. Programs and events often have a ticket or program fee attached but there is no membership or membership fee required to attend interVivos programs and events.
Are events free?
Typically, no. Most events and programs have a nominal ticket price attached to them to cover the cost of food and the event venue. The mentorship program has a fee for protégés to cover the costs of running the program. Mentors do not have to pay to participate and are not financially compensated for participating.
Is there an age limit to take part in programs or events?
In general, no. Our vision is a generation of inspired and informed leaders. Our mentors and protégés are of all ages and backgrounds. Our mentorship program is meant to be reciprocal. The other events we host are also open to the public of all ages and all backgrounds.
How do I become a mentor with interVivos?

We receive in-kind support from some long-term partners. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, please visit our sponsorship page.
Who started interVivos?
interVivos can trace its roots back to the Canadian Unity Council Young Leaders’ Committee in 2003. The committee’s main role was to facilitate the Young Leaders’ Dialogue Series, which featured luncheons that brought together members of the business, political, and non-profit sectors with students and young professionals to discuss matters such as post-secondary education and Aboriginal concerns. The committee organized four of these events in both 2004 and 2005, and also played a role in the Canada Conference held in Edmonton in October 2005.
In early 2006, the committee began discussing expanding its mandate, but shortly thereafter, the federal government ceased funding to the Canada Unity Council. The members of the Young Leaders committee in Edmonton wanted to continue to provide an opportunity for Edmontonians to come together to discuss various topics and, in the process, create a stronger leadership presence in our community across all age groups. As a result, interVivos was launched in November 2006.
What else does interVivos do for Edmonton besides having a mentorship program?
We host events based on concerns and topics that are important to young professionals. Previous events and programs have included sessions about how to get more involved in your community, election forums to meet political candidates, and partnership events with local groups.
How does someone become a speaker for an interVivos event?
The board typically comes up with the program of events at the beginning of each year. If you have an idea for an event or would like to speak at an interVivos event, email us at connect@intervivos.ca.
